Human Transit Safety Officer, Harmonic Operations Active

Dr. Iona Vale

Also known as: Dr. Vale

Dr. Iona Vale at the observation position of a teleportation bay, one hand on an unmarked metal hold lever, plain dark uniform, calm and immovable, the empty transit platform in shadow behind her.

She was transferred after the second successful jump that left someone unable to remember their own name.

Dr. Iona Vale works at the overlap between harmonic physics and the bodies that travel through it. Threshold Station is not her first posting. The work is not new to her. What is new is having the authority to set the rules rather than document what happened after someone else broke them.

Her position is simple: if the endpoint is not visually confirmed, the jump does not happen. If the power reserve is below margin, the jump does not happen. If the crew member shows unresolved central fatigue markers, the jump does not happen. These are not preferences. They are the line between treating people as persons and treating them as cargo.

Known History

  • Trained in neurophysiology and harmonic transit safety at Eden Space Habitat.
  • Led post-incident reviews for two emergency relocation failures in outer corridor stations.
  • Reassigned to Threshold Station to establish enforceable teleportation safety protocols.

Character Notes

Iona is not against teleportation. She is against the pretence that the cost disappears because the outcome was successful.

A jump that works still moves a body through a harmonic coherence event that registers in the nervous system like electrical seizure. A body that survives this is not a body that has been treated gently. It is a body that has been used efficiently.

She keeps records. She adds the warning every time. Nobody likes the warning. It remains in the file.
