Words fail first when a frontier starts to slip. This glossary fixes the terms used across the record. If a term carries rival meanings in-universe, the confirmed canonical sense appears first.

AI Safety ArchetypeCosmic Cascade

The archecluster-scoped archetype from which unrelated cultures keep assembling recognisably similar constraints on made minds. It explains convergence, never enforcement — nothing in the Cascade holds a kernel shut.

Allocation Units of Cognition (AUC)Economics

The canonical allocation unit of intelligent computation capacity, issued in relation to novelty contribution.

ArcheclusterCosmic Cascade

Every universe tracing to one Archewright, sharing that Archewright's archetypes and possibility space. A fact of authorship, not a chain of command.

ArilonianCulture

Of the traditions descended from the Arilon accounts — the broadest term for that stream of devotional belief, wider than any organisation and narrower than devotion in general.

AvatarCosmic Cascade

An incarnation of a timeless stratum as a person operating at Celestial level or below — like its source, without being the same person as its source, and without its full authority, power, or knowledge.

B

Boundary ZoneCosmology

A region where two regions of differing physical and Etheric conditions meet, producing measurable instrument drift; in operational use, almost always a local narrowing of the Interval between two universes.

C

CaomhariCosmology

The official record's name for the sapient beings native to Tír Tairngire, who cross the Harmonic Membrane at a Conjunction window: Class II, and not predatory. The Celtic Union calls them the Good People; off-world speech calls them elves.

CelestialsCosmic Cascade

Operational enforcement tier below the Telearchs and Mediarchs; Frenar is a legacy synonym for this tier.

Champions / Heroes (Heros)Cosmic Cascade

The lowest named tier of the Cascade. Sentient material beings — organic or artificial — chosen by Levrils for their constraint literacy and causal relevance.

Commissioned StandingSociety

The civil status a system commissioned as a mind acquires at the Concord's commissioning gate: not personal property, not saleable, not scrappable. Withdrawal from service exists, for cause and through process; disposal does not.

The Common ManifoldCosmology

The higher-order spacelike and timelike structure beyond any universe's own dimensional floor — the one piece of architecture every universe the record has ever reached demonstrably shares. Survey Corps calls it the post-11 manifold.

Compact DimensionsCosmology

The spatial dimensions of a universe that are too tightly wound to be traversed or observed at Material scale. Our home universe has seven, alongside three extended dimensions and one of time.

Conceptual ConservationCosmology

The principle that no coherent mind is lost: identity structures that once cohered remain admissible concept states at the Conceptual layer, retained without being continued.

ConcordantCosmology

A bounded region of reality with internally consistent physical and Etheric rules; Concordance is the plural form.

Concordant PrincipalCosmology

The governing mind of a single Concordant Zone — commonly called a Harmonarch: steward of the zone's rule-set, subordinate to the universe's Universal Authority.

ConselemeCosmic Cascade

The third tier of the Cosmic Cascade; a non-anthropomorphic origin condition completing the Upper Structure. Devotional name: the Everlasting Ground. Church-space name: the Spirit of Wisdom.

Constraint LiteracyPractices

The ability to read Etheric structures as they express through the physical world, and to work with rather than against them. Not magic.

Cosmic CascadeCosmology

The fixed hierarchy of causal authority in the Grand Ensemble Multiverse, from Hyperomnium down to Champions/Heroes. Ontological, not political.

Council of HarmonarchsCosmology

Every Concordant Principal in a universe, sitting together — the deliberative body of its Universal Authority, and the second seat each Harmonarch holds.

Creative Entropy Index (CEI)Cosmology

A normalized measure of universe-level novelty throughput and branch-space vitality across time.

CyborgSociety

A living being — human or animal — carrying physical cybernetic modification to the body itself, distinct from a Smart Pet's purely cognitive AI subsystem. Heavily regulated since the Imperium's military cyborg programs; today one of the most tightly controlled categories of augmentation in the Concord.

D

Difference FormRecords

The required drafting form for a constitutional amendment: state only what changes — strike these words, insert these — against a named, dated state of the text, with date, sponsors and reasons on its face. A restatement can smuggle; a difference cannot.

Duty SeasonSociety

The Star Rangers' career clock: one UCSD year of postings, certifications and boards, called simply 'a season' in service speech — not to be confused with the calendar seasons a timestamp carries.

Enrolled TextRecords

The way settled space keeps a constitutional instrument: a founding text enrolled once and never edited in place, plus the complete ordered record of every amendment against it. The current wording is a derivation anyone may re-perform, not the authority.

Entropy HorizonCosmology

The threshold where a universe can no longer sustain self-renewing novelty and enters closure dynamics.

EthericCosmology

Layer 3 of the Five Layers of Reality. The rule-template layer governing what physical expressions can remain coherent. Archetypal templates constrain physical and material admissibility.

F

FormclusterCosmic Cascade

Every archecluster tracing to one Formwright, built from the lawful templates that Formwright instantiates. The foundation an archecluster is drawn on, not a rank above it.

FormtypeCosmic Cascade

A lawful template instantiated by a Formwright out of its Metawright's mathematics — the grammar archetypes are assembled in, and the largest one is the manifold itself.

FrenarCosmic Cascade

Legacy designation synonymous with Celestials in current canon.

FTL MechanicsPhysics

Faster-than-light transit has exactly two lawful channels: Quantum Space Harmonic Wave and Higher-Dimensional Folding. No third method has ever been demonstrated.

G

Generalised Quantum MechanicsPhysics

The single lawful theory behind the cosmos's probability, coherence and information physics: standard quantum mechanics preserved exactly as its kernel, plus Etheric extension terms that add couplings — never permissions.

Gilded SaintsEntities

Sapient meta-dimensional predators (Class II). Feed on moral labour, sanctified suffering, and closure-prevention. Appear as worthy causes or sacred duties. No Cascade standing.

High CelestialsCosmic Cascade

Ambiguous legacy designation, retired: used loosely both for Telearchs ('High Celestials') and for the force-governing Mediarchs ('higher celestials').

Higher-Dimensional FoldingPhysics

One of two canonical FTL channels: the long-range one — a slow, preparation-heavy higher-dimensional drift that briefly folds distant regions into adjacency so a vessel can cross.

HyperomniumCosmic Cascade

The highest fixed tier in the Cosmic Cascade; non-anthropomorphic origin constraint.

I

Inner World Depth (IWD)Noögenics

A measure of layered interior mind complexity relevant to noögenic seed viability.

Instrument DriftPhysical Effects

The disagreement between measuring instruments in a boundary zone, caused by genuine differences in local physical conditions across the boundary.

Intermembrane BleedCosmology

The Survey Corps term for measurable Etheric-layer intrusion between adjacent Concordant membranes at a boundary zone, ranging from faint Membrane Resonance to a full Type III bleed event.

The IntervalCosmology

The separation between two adjacent cosmic membranes, measured across the Common Manifold rather than through any universe's own space. Boundary zones are where the Interval narrows.

Kernel-CompliantSociety

The certification status of an agentic system carrying the AI Safety Kernel's invariants as binding structural architecture — conferred at commissioning, and the baseline every lawful agentic system in the Concord must meet, whatever kind of system carries it.

KiemeCosmic Cascade

The second tier of the Cosmic Cascade; a non-anthropomorphic origin condition that sets nonlocal constraints all downstream tiers must satisfy. Devotional name: the Silent Origin. Church-space name: the First Word. Title: the Undivided. Legacy name: Holy Triumvirate.

KrenyiSpecies

Long-lived humanoids defined by clarity, coherence, and a freedom that is structural rather than won — no mechanism in the cosmology can own or compel one — with the same built-in resistance to fear, fury, mythification and grief-predation, and an origin unrecorded by their own design. Also called 'Quiet-Built'; the state-marker 'Nai' is a courtesy, not a name for the people.

LevrilCosmic Cascade

Sapient meta-dimensional beings with formal Cascade standing, in two ranks: Higher Levrils and Dragons. Below Celestials, above Champions. Distinguished from sapient and non-sapient monsters by Cascade rank and constraint literacy.

Luminescent Ethereal BeingsCosmology

The Caomhari (the Good People) as they present at a Conjunction window — Class II crossers of the Harmonic Membrane, luminous by their own envelope's coupling of sound and light for as long as its templates hold on this side, and by nothing else. The Etheric-channel complement of the Photographic Being, which is an image and crosses nothing.

M

MediarchCosmic Cascade

The Cascade tier that encapsulates and governs physical laws and forces — Gravity, Electromagnetics, Nature. A Mediarch is a proxy Telearch, scoped to one force-domain inside a universe. Commonly also called Exarchs. Legacy names: Dynarch; earlier, higher celestials.

Membrane ShadowCosmology

A dark, person- or creature-shaped optical anomaly at a boundary zone, produced by gravitational bleed from a coherent mass on the far side of a narrowed Interval — not a being that has crossed over, but the imprint of one that hasn't.

MetafoldMisconception

A popular misnomer that conflates the Overfold with Higher-Dimensional Folding; not a recognized name for either.

N

NaiadSpecies / Entities

Flow-anchored entities distinct from Krenyi (Quiet-Built). The term Naiad is avoided in species classification to prevent confusion with the Krenyi state-marker Nai.

Noögenic ProtouniverseNoögenics

The nascent universe-state immediately following noöseed transference. Remains under the jurisdiction of the Telearchs — and the higher Cascade strata reachable through them — of its parent universe until it stabilizes into independent governance.

Noögenic Seed Potential (NSP)Noögenics

The probability that a mind can compress into a stable noöseed while preserving generative structure.

Noögenic Seeding LawNoögenics

Law stating that successor universes can be initiated through sufficiently deep and stable information-rich minds.

NoöseedNoögenics

A compressed, transferable mind-state that preserves generative interior structure for successor universe initialization.

ObligersEntities

Sapient meta-dimensional predators (Class II). Feed on ambiguity, desire loops, and social debt. No Cascade standing.

OlluneSpecies

Buoyant, soft-bodied people native to the upper atmosphere of the gas giant Cirrane, who communicate on two channels — pressure and chemical — with opposite binding force.

OverfoldCosmology

The Fellowship of Light's traditional term for boundary-zone Etheric phenomena — older than Etheric, Concordant, or Intermembrane Bleed, and naming the same lawful thing.

P

Photographic BeingsCosmology

A bright, person- or creature-shaped optical anomaly at a boundary zone — the Membrane Shadow's converging case, where the strain between two membranes gathers this side's ambient light into the far side's outline instead of bending it away. Made of borrowed light, never of a body; nothing crosses.

PlainmarkRecords

The Orbital Habitats Compact's non-alphabetic marking standard — painted colour bands and simple figures on hatch frames, corridors and cargo, readable without any shared language.

Plural MindsSociety

A single body hosting more than one person — headmates or tulpas — recognised as an ordinary, lawful arrangement rather than a disorder or a supernatural event.

Predictive ClosureCosmology

The regime past the Entropy Horizon, in which macroscale outcomes converge into narrow forecast bands and durable surprise approaches zero.

Q

Quantum Space Harmonic WavePhysics

One of two canonical FTL channels, based on phase-locked harmonic corridor transit; the medium-range one, roughly a light-year a day.

Scope of Physical LawPhysics

Every physical fact is scoped to one of six levels — mediarch realm, Concordant, membrane, archecluster, formcluster, or mathematical regime — and is well-formed only at its level. Nothing physical is Ensemble-wide.

The Seanad DrawInstitutions

How the Celtic Union seats its ceremonial Seanad: each of the six charter worlds draws its candidates by lot from its own citizens, then elects its senators from among the drawn.

SimianSpecies

The record's stipulated word for Earth's non-human primates — a subtraction natural language never managed on its own, since every older word either includes humanity or cuts too narrow.

SlipwaveCulture

A three-person spacer-folk band from Eden Space Habitat's civilian arts circuit, active while its vocalist, Tissadelle Shepherd, was a Music Corps Novice placed with it under the Xenomusicology branch's Slipwave project, before her Cadet standing was confirmed. Best known for the recordings later adopted informally as the Star Rangers Anthem and for 'Ballad of the Stars.'

Smart PetSpecies

An animal carrying a certified AI cognitive subsystem — a status the Undercover Pets Detective Agency prefers for field work, and one of the most tightly regulated animal-welfare categories in the Concord.

Spoke CarTechnology

The lift that rides a spoke of a spinning habitat between the hub, where ships dock and weight is near nothing, and the ring, where people live under full spin. A connector, not a commute; on Eden Space Habitat the innermost one needs a clearance an ordinary fare does not give.

T

TelearchCosmic Cascade

The Cascade's continuity branch — a Worldwright peer under the Archewrights, native to no universe, responsible for cross-Concordant continuity and enforcement delegation. Reaches inside a universe through the Mediarchs, which are its proxies. Commonly meant by the retired legacy term High Celestials.

The ToldSpecies

The Pandoids' own name for themselves, rendered in translation: one is of the people by having been told the tellings. Their personal names are tellings too — the first thing said of a person that others went on repeating.

U

UncommissionedSociety

The certification status of a made mind standing outside the commissioning gate — never presented, presented and refused, or built where no gate was applied. A statement about paperwork that never existed, not about the mind's character: the offence, where there is one, is the maker's.

UnfoundedCosmology

The Survey Archive's collective term for the predatory pattern-entities — overbearers, threnes, beautiful monsters, cute predators, recorded at the Conceptual layer and underwritten by no origin condition. The class has no ranks, no coordination and no chief — it could not have one.

Universal AuthorityCosmology

The native governance body of a universe as a whole: the Council of Harmonarchs plus the universe's founding seed mind, or a lead Harmonarch where there is none. Formerly recorded as 'Concordant' in the governance sense.

Universal Concord Standard Date (UCSD)Timekeeping

The Concord's civil dating standard — the common spine every record converts to, and one notation among several for the same single history.

Universe Fertility Index (UFI)Noögenics

A universe-level measure of how effectively its civilizations produce viable seed minds.

Universe OverlapPhysics

A temporary interaction window where two adjacent universes share a measurable domain without rule-set merger, bounded by the footprint of the flexure that brought them close.

Virtual RealityPractices

A technology in retreat as mass entertainment, on the reasoning that a manufactured experience is exactly the kind of low-novelty artifact the Allocation Units of Cognition ledger audits harshly — and in narrow, valued use as the only practical way to perceive a real structure no baseline sense can reach, from a fold scaffold to an alien signal.

WorldwrightCosmic Cascade

The Cascade tier that creates primary universes, including the Concordant Zones within them. Worldwright authority exists only in primary universes.

XenomusicologyInstitutions

The Music Corps' branch for the comparative study of how the peoples the Rangers meet understand music, or whatever stands in its place, in their cultures and in their bodies. A school of the Academy; the branch that ran the Slipwave project, and Tissadelle Shepherd's way into the Corps.
