Luminescent Ethereal Beings

Luminescent Ethereal Beings is the phrase the Celtic Union's First Landing records use for the first confirmed sightings of the people who cross from Tír Tairngire at a Conjunction window — set down before the Union's own telling had settled on the Good People and before anyone had coined Etheric for the layer the phrase was reaching for. The Archive keeps it as it keeps Filinesse: a rendering from the contact record, not a term of its own. In Archive voice the layer is the Etheric, the people are the Caomhari, and the phenomenon below is theirs; three names, one thing, in the order they were coined, and none more real than the others.

Who they are is on the Tír Tairngire page and is not restated here except in its bounds: beings native to that membrane's own Concordant, crossing bodily through a transient gravity tunnel at resonance peak and withdrawing before it closes; Class II, sapient, without Cascade standing, and the clearest documented case that Class II is not a predator; tall, unhurried, and correct in a way that is the problem, because a body built to a neighbouring Concordant's templates reads on this side as almost exactly right.

Why they are luminous, and when. Tír Tairngire's Worldwright authored an envelope in which the acoustic and electromagnetic modes are lawfully coupled — a sustained tone there shapes the light that falls through it — and a body built in that envelope carries the coupling: a voice that lights. On this side the coupling is not admissible, except where the Harmonic Membrane's own templates are winning local admissibility, which is what Intermembrane Bleed at Type III is. So at a window, while the tunnel stands and the bleed runs, they are luminous by their own voice — a lamp's worth by every witness account, never a sun's — and the glow rises with the window and dies with it as the bleed subsides. What they carry away from a window the record cannot say, because in every account on file they have withdrawn before it closed and no instrument has crossed. The light is theirs and the energy is theirs; the record licenses nothing here that the Tír Tairngire and Intermembrane Bleed pages did not already hold, and states only the conjunction of the two.

The pair. A Type III proximity has two observables, a Physical signature and an Etheric one, and neither causes the other. A Photographic Being is the Physical channel seen: an image of this side's borrowed daylight in a far-side outline, invisible in the dark, with nothing crossed. A Luminescent Ethereal Being is the Etheric channel seen in a body: a presence, its own light, something crossed. The instruments tell them apart without a witness: a photometer returns the sky's spectrum for the one and an emission for the other; a thermal or mass sensor returns nothing for the one and a body for the other; and an Etheric signature runs whenever the second is luminous and never for the first. The Caomhari and the Dryads of the Benevolent Case are these same neighbours a third way, as imprints — no body, no crossing, a presentation shaped to be met — so a Union witness may have met the same person as a Shadow in a grove and at a window in a body, and the record cannot say whether anyone has.

What a witness makes of them is theirs to make, in a POV block or a Codex telling, and the record carries the coupling. The Union's contact doctrine — don't follow, don't detain, don't publish the timing — stands, and is why this entry can say where they are seen and not when. They are documented at Tír na nÓg's two Conjunction sites and nowhere else; a narrowed Interval elsewhere opens on a neighbour the record does not name, and this entry does not follow it there.
