Krenyi
In Union Irish: Krenyi — the people's name, kept; Quiet-Built is na Ciúinthógtha
Species
Krenyi is the preferred species name for the beings also called the Quiet-Built or identified by the state-marker Nai. The formal term is used in cross-species contexts to prevent confusion with Naiads, which are flow-anchored entities rather than persons.
The Krenyi are long-lived, physically attractive by most humanoid standards and to humans emotionally unreadable, and structurally incapable of experiencing deep fear or fury. Females outnumber males about three to one, and a birth rate far lower and slower than the human one keeps them a small people, so a Krenyi in the Star Rangers is rare and, for the work their sensorium makes cheap, highly valued; they are robust, quick to heal, and healed by nothing but their own bodies. They are polyamorous but loyal, diplomatic and polite but essentially honest — the manner is theirs, and the honesty is the floor under it, so a Krenyi softens a delivery or declines it and never softens the fact — and resistant to glamour and mythification. Their freedom is structural rather than defended: no physical, social or metaphysical mechanism exists in the cosmology by which a Krenyi could be owned or compelled, so their cooperation is only ever extended, never obtained. They are the people most easily mistaken for human and the furthest from it beneath the frame: the resemblance is superficial, and a Krenyi never claims otherwise. They are of independent origin — neither descended from nor engineered from human ancestors — and whether they were made at all — the reading with the most shape being that Levrils designed them as Champions, since they are the readiest Champions in the record — is unproven and unknown to the record; the Krenyi know, and keep it out of quietness, discretion and modesty.
"Nai" as a state means "still relevant here." It is not a title. It is an acknowledgement of continued presence and engagement.
Example: Syra, roughly a hundred and fifty years old, is unremarkable by Krenyi standards — most of her kind live far longer. Her structural resistance to fury and fear does not make her passive: she experiences anxiety and annoyance freely, she simply does not experience their more destructive extremes.
