Champions / Heroes (Heros)

In Union Irish: Curaidh / Laochra — champions / heroes, the two old words for the one who is chosen to act

Champions / Heroes (Heros) (pronounced: CHAM-pee-unz / HEHR-ohz) are the lowest named agency tier in the fixed Cosmic Cascade.

They are sentient material beings — organic or artificial — chosen by Levrils. The selection reflects a Levril's assessment of constraint literacy and causal relevance. It is a bounded, lawful process, not a supernatural event or a designation of destiny.

Canonically, Champion, Hero, and Heros are synonymous terms for the same tier.

Champions have no authority to override higher tiers. Their actions remain bounded by Concordant law. The common interpretation of Champions as "chosen by fate" is a low-context reading of what is, structurally, a constrained selection process.

Example: A Levril does not grant a mortal supernatural power to make them a Champion. It recognises constraint literacy and causal relevance already present — the way a recruiter identifies a promising cadet rather than manufactures one. Sustained, competent action under pressure across postings is exactly the kind of pattern a Levril would read as Champion-relevant. A life kept under a rule produces the same pattern by another road: the contemplative and the devout train attention that does not grasp and the ability to stay where the ground is thin, which is why Saint Aoife is the record's standing case of a devoutly spiritual human fitted to the tier, whatever she met at the well. The selection prefers neither route.
