Designed cover for Protectors of the Fold: a gold serif title over a dark starfield, with a trailing star, matching the site's other Slipwave recording covers.

RECOVERED RECORDING — TRANSCRIPTION Performing credit: Slipwave (Ashgrove, Calloway) Recorded: decades after the original anthem sessions, well into both musicians' Ranger service Current standing: No charter status, same as the first anthem. Unlike the first, this one did not spread by muster singing — it spread because someone cut it under the opening titles of a cadet orientation reel, and nobody has taken it back out since.

Transcriber's note: this is the cleanest lyric sheet either musician has ever handed the Archive — typed, not scrawled, and matching the only two known recordings line for line. Ashgrove says that's because "we finally had a mixing booth instead of a dock common room," not because anyone told them what to write.

Verse I

In the quiet between the stars, where the long lights drift and fade, we keep the line unbroken through the dark that waits.

Refrain

We are the signal. We are the steady hand. We are the Star Rangers — protectors of the fold.

Verse II

No throne, no claim, no banner — only the oath we bear. To guard the living future from the silence and the fire.

Refrain

We are the signal. We are the steady hand. We are the Star Rangers — protectors of the fold.

Bridge

When the corridors fracture, when the beacons dim, when the void grows cold — we stand.

Final Refrain

We are the signal. We are the steady hand. We are the Star Rangers — protectors of the fold.

Archivist's note (S., Survey Archive): every intake asks me the same thing about this one, and it isn't "who wrote it" — everyone already knows. It's "why does it sound official when the charter says nothing does." I've checked. Nobody signed off on it. Nobody cut the orientation reel on anyone's authority above a training officer with a deadline and a spare afternoon of Ashgrove's back catalogue. It reads like a charter document because Ashgrove and Calloway have spent decades playing memorials and musters and know exactly which words land in a room that size. That's craft, not endorsement. Filed next to the first anthem, not above it.
