First Drift Report Filed at Threshold Station
2815 UCSD, Late Summer
In 2815 UCSD, Late Summer, a reporting officer at Threshold Station files the station's first instrument drift report. Two chronometers in Dock Seven show a forty-second discrepancy. Both instruments have been individually calibrated and confirmed accurate. When compared, they disagree.
The station administration classifies the discrepancy as a calibration issue and closes the report. Recalibration is recommended and performed. Within forty-eight hours, the discrepancy returns.
The return is logged in the maintenance record as a single line. It is not filed as a new incident report.
Canon facts:
- This event is the beginning of a documented record that will eventually span eleven years.
- The resolution — "calibration issue" — is incorrect.
- The full incident report is preserved in the Survey Archive. See: Incident Report 001.
