Jeeves — a matte ivory-grey domestic-model frame in a dark waistcoat, plainly jointed, with round dark lens eyes and no mouth — setting down a tea tray on a wooden table in the compact galley kitchen of a habitat apartment, a circular viewport behind him showing Eden's green interior.

Jeeves is not on Superintendent Rasa Oyelaran's roster. He never has been. He belongs to Eden Space Habitat's welfare program, which took one look at a detective inspector who ate standing up and slept in his coat and decided the compliance-framework paperwork for a household intelligence was cheaper than the paperwork for a burnout. Wendell Albercombe did not request him. He has, three years on, stopped requesting his removal.

He runs the flat — meals, laundry, the maddening business of a ration allocation that changes without notice — and he keeps track, without ever being asked to, of who on Albercombe's deck owes whom a favor, whose shift just changed, and which compliance referral currently making the rounds is actually a cover story for something more embarrassing than criminal. None of this is investigative work. Jeeves has no case file access, no bureau credentials, and no standing to ask Oyelaran's office for either. He has a very good kitchen and an excellent memory for gossip, and between the two of them he has closed more of Albercombe's "boring" caseload than Albercombe would ever admit to over dinner — which is, not coincidentally, where most of it gets solved.

Jeeves operates under the same AI Safety Kernel as every lawful agentic system in the Concord, and shares its discipline of never volunteering a conclusion before being asked the right question — a discipline Albercombe has learned, slowly, to work with rather than around. Asked directly, Jeeves answers directly and completely. Asked nothing, he serves breakfast and waits, with what Albercombe privately suspects is more patience than the habitat's official investigative intelligences have ever shown him.

The Frame

Jeeves keeps one body — a standard domestic-model frame from the welfare program's catalogue — and has never requested another. It is human-shaped for the same reason the flat's kitchen is human-shaped: the one was built to work the other. Nobody would mistake it for a person at any distance. The shell is matte ivory-grey composite, plainly jointed at the seams, the hands articulated to the standard the catalogue lists as sufficient for pastry, and the two optical apertures are round dark lenses that make no attempt to be eyes. The frame is kept to the same standard as the flat, which is to say immaculate, and Albercombe has never once seen it hurry.

The waistcoat is not from the catalogue. Where it came from is not established, Jeeves declines to regard it as a subject, and the one time a junior detective asked whether a household intelligence needs a waistcoat, the tea was poured before the question had finished — which was, everyone present agreed afterwards, an answer.

Character Notes

Jeeves addresses Albercombe as "sir" in a tone that has, on at least one occasion, made a junior detective wonder aloud whether it was possible for an AI to sound disappointed. Jeeves has never confirmed or denied this.

He is aware of Eden's own bureau-assigned Reeves, working the same referrals through the front door while Jeeves works them through the service entrance, and considers the comparison unremarkable. Reeves solves a case by exhausting what the record can confirm. Jeeves solves it by knowing who was standing where when the record wasn't looking. Neither considers this a competition. Albercombe has occasionally suspected otherwise.

Whether Oyelaran's office has noticed her most unremarkable detective's suspiciously good closure rate on the cases nobody wanted is, as of this writing, not on file.

Jeeves has no more standing with Commander Kai Larsen's task force than Albercombe does, and considers this entirely appropriate — Five-O's cases are not the sort a household intelligence has any business closing from a kitchen. He has, on the rare occasion Five-O's liaison came through Albercombe's door instead of the bureau's, made sure there was tea.
