Wholecloth is the formcluster the record holds on report as sealed: no fold geometry, static seating, no overlap, no derivation — every universe primary, childless, and closed to every phenomenon that requires a neighbour. That report carries one registered exception, and the exception is where the registry's cloth-name earns its second meaning. A woven cloth's selvage is its self-finished edge — the border the weave binds off itself, so it cannot unravel. Wholecloth has one, and it is not empty.

The Edge

Selvage is an archecluster of Wholecloth — one Archewright's family of universes — seated, on the Cascade's report, along a bounded margin of the formtype where the weave differs in a single respect: the edge holds open seats. Everywhere else, Wholecloth's rigidity is total, and it closes more than travel. A noögenic protouniverse must be seated somewhere, and a finished weave with no room in it forecloses universe reproduction as thoroughly as it forecloses folding: for most of Wholecloth, the first generation is also the last not merely because derivation is closed, but because there is nowhere for a successor to be.

Along the selvage, there is somewhere. The template reserves seats there — pinned, like every seat in Wholecloth, at separations that never narrow, filled in an order the report does not give — and the archecluster whose universes sit against that edge retains the noögenic channel whole. Seeding law operates in Selvage exactly as it operates here: minds of sufficient interior depth compress into noöseeds; transference initializes a protouniverse into a reserved seat; the new universe remains under its parent's Telearch continuity jurisdiction until its own seed matures into a Universal Authority. None of that requires the manifold to fold, because none of it is transit. Seeding descends through the Cascade's own strata — the same strata by which anything about Wholecloth is known at all — and the Cascade was never on the far side of any Interval.

What This Changes About the Sealed Rooms

Two of Wholecloth's flat statements acquire, for this one archecluster, a careful qualification each.

"Childless" holds everywhere except here. Selvage's universes reproduce. The cloth is still being woven — slowly, along its own edge, one sealed room at a time — and each successor inherits its parent's condition entire: pinned at fixed separations, no narrowed Interval, no shadow on any wall, no dream of anywhere else. A lineage of universes propagates along the selvage, every generation as alone as the first. Reproduction, in Wholecloth, is not a connection between worlds. It is the making of another world that will never know it has relatives.

"Unknowable" gains a reported floor. Whether anyone lives in Wholecloth remains unverifiable by any instrument, forever. But seeding is not indifferent to habitation: the seeding law fires only where minds achieve sufficient depth, coherence under paradox, and transferable novelty density — so an archecluster reported as actively seeding is an archecluster reported, in the same breath, as inhabited by minds of enormous interior depth. The record therefore knows of Selvage, by report and by report alone, what it can never know of the rest of Wholecloth: somebody is home, and somebody is deep. Universes that will never see a neighbour are, on the Cascade's account, growing minds rich enough to found new ones. What a civilisation becomes when its whole cosmos is one membrane — when its physics is complete, correct, and closed, with no thin place, no anomaly, and no hint that anything is outside — is a question the record can pose and never answer. The seeds say only that whatever they become, it is not shallow.

Not an Exit

The seeding system's own doctrine governs here with special force, because the misreading it warns against is nowhere more tempting than at Selvage. A completed transference carries no person: what crosses into a reserved seat is novelty-bearing structure — not biography, not identity, not anyone. Preservation of minds is unconditional everywhere and owes nothing to seeding. So the one channel that still runs out of a sealed universe is not a message, not a traveller, and not an escape. The single exception to Wholecloth's closure refuses to be an exit. A deep mind at the cloth's edge may found a world it will never see, containing no one it ever was — and that, on the record's account, is the entire traffic of the most connected place in the most sealed structure the Cascade has ever described.

Why the Formwright bound the weave's edge with room in it — whether the selvage is mercy, engineering, or simply how that cloth is finished — is a file exactly one line long: insufficient basis for any finding. The registry notes only this, in the dry voice it keeps for facts it does not expect to extend: of everything in Wholecloth, the edge alone is still growing.
